My lasting love in life has always been language, the curve of it in my mouth to ink and pixels of words. A child nursed on a soundless world, I have appreciated the power of language endlessly. I am deaf in both ears, and hearing aids are working hard to ensure my consistent connection to the world. This is what has led me down my current path in journalism.

Being someone who knows how precious voices are, who has fallen in love with Brazil’s language of Portuguese, I want to bridge the gap between Australia and Brazil. They are countries that could bleed as one with the same claim of multiculturalism.
My first brush with Brazil was in 2024. It was an act of bravery to travel solo as a deaf and autistic woman. I travelled for a wedding, and stayed for a little over a month, the first time. This is where I fell in love with the country, beyond just learning the language. In many ways, it became a testament of my strength and the herald of my future dreams.
